The third T20I of the ongoing series between the West Indies and India saw the visitors hanging by a thread as they had already lost the first two games. In desperate need of a magnificent performance, the Indian players showcased just that at the Providence Stadium.

The Windies came in to bat first after winning the toss and got off to a prolific start to the game. Openers Brandon King and Kyle Mayers scored 42 and 25 runs, respectively, to get their side off to the perfect start. Furthermore, with skipper Rovman Powell’s 40* and Nicholas Pooran's 20 runs on the board, the West Indies posted 159 runs in the first innings.

The Indian team put forth an improved performance with the ball in the first innings as star spinner Kuldeep Yadav took a brilliant three wicket-haul and conceded 28 runs in the four overs that he bowled. Furthermore, Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar took one wicket each.

Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliance leads India to resounding win

Aiming to chase down a target of 160 runs, India got off to a horrid start as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were sent packing for just one and six runs, respectively.

However, the poor start was stabilized by the excellent knocks of Suryakumar Yadav and youngster Tilak Varma. As team India looked to be losing their grasp on the game, Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 83 runs in 44 deliveries, and with Tilak Varma’s unbeaten knock of 49 runs and skipper Hardik Pandya’s late push of 20* runs, India managed to win their first T20I of the series as they won the game by seven wickets.

Alzarri Joseph and Obed McCoy were the only wicket-takers for the Windies during the run chase, with two and one wicket to their names, respectively. After winning the third T20I, India managed to claw their way back into the series, and it could be interesting to see how they fare in the remaining games.
