The Eliminator clash of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) featured a clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore women and Mumbai Indians women at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, on Friday, March 15. As both sides aimed to book their berths in the WPL final, the clash began with Bangalore batting first after winning the toss.
The side got off to a subpar start as openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine departed for 10 runs each. However, after the subpar start, in-form Ellyse Perry scored 66 runs in 50 deliveries. Furthermore, Richa Ghosh scored 14 runs as Bangalore posted a total of 135 runs in the first innings.
As for Mumbai Indians, Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Saika Ishaque were the highest wicket-takers, with two wickets each to their names.
Exceptional bowling keeps Mumbai Indians at bay
Aiming to chase down a target of 136 runs, Mumbai Indians got off to a subpar start. Openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews were sent back to the pavilion for 19 and 15 runs, respectively. Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 23 runs, with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scoring 33 runs in 30 balls.
Furthermore, Amelia Kerr stayed unbeaten on a score of 27 runs, but Mumbai Indians were unable to chase the target down. As for Bangalore, Shreyanka Patil was the highest wicket-taker, with two wickets to her name.
Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, and Asha Sobhana took one wicket each as Mumbai Indians were limited to a score of 130 runs, as Bangalore won the game by five runs and reached the summit clash of the tournament. It is worth noting that RCB women will face off against Delhi Capitals women at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, on Sunday, March 17.
