In a thrilling encounter at the ICC T20 World Cup, Bangladesh and the Netherlands faced off in the 27th match at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St. Vincent. A moment of panic struck the Bangladesh camp when opener Tanzid Hasan experienced a scary incident involving a bouncer from Dutch pacer Vivian Kingma.
After being put to bat first, Bangladesh faced early pressure with the dismissal of captain Najmul Shanto. Tanzid Hasan, determined to revive the innings, started aggressively. In Kingma’s third over, Tanzid scored 14 runs off the first four deliveries, displaying his intent.
However, the fifth delivery turned into a heart-stopping moment. Kingma delivered a fierce bouncer aimed at Tanzid's head. With his eyes closed, Tanzid braced for impact. The ball lodged in the grill of his helmet with a force that stunned everyone on the field.
Fortunately, the protective grill took the brunt of the impact. Tanzid, visibly shaken, removed his helmet with the ball still stuck. A quick check by the physio confirmed he had no concussion. In a show of remarkable composure, Tanzid smashed a defiant four off the very next ball. He scored a total of 18 runs in that over, demonstrating his fighting spirit. Bangladesh ended their innings with a strong score of 159/5. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan was the top scorer with the bat, scoring a brilliant 64 off 46 balls with nine fours. For the Dutch, Paul van Meekeren was the pick of the bowlers as he took two wickets in his four-over spell.
