The Duleep Trophy has returned for its 2026-27 edition. This also marks the commencement of India's 2026-27 domestic season, with the red-ball tournament getting the proceedings underway. The Central Zone, led by Rajat Patidar, are the defending champions and will be looking to retain the silverware with them following a dominant run in 2025.

Looking back at the 2025 edition, while the Central Zone won the event, the South Zone ended as the runners-up. Central Zone had defeated North East Zone in the quarter-final while securing a first-innings lead against the Shardul Thakur-led West Zone in the semis to earn a place in the grand finale. South Zone had a direct entry into the semi-final, where they beat East Zone to make their way through.

Among batters who impressed the most, Rajat Patidar was the leading run-getter with 382 runs from just five innings. The Indore-born batted at a brilliant average of 76.40, which helped his team massively in lifting the trophy. The next two in the list of top scorers were also from the Central Zone, as Vidarbha batters Yash Rathod and Danish Malewar scored 374 and 352 from five innings, respectively.

Speaking of bowlers, off-spinner Saransh Jain spun a web around the opposition, claiming a scintillating 16 wickets in just two matches, delivering at an average of 24.00. Saransh was the Player of the Match in the final while also receiving the Player of the Series award for his all-round contributions.
